MeteorWrite is a specialist motor underwriting business working exclusively with insurance brokers and intermediaries. Founded in 2019, the company operates in the non-standard and specialist motor market, providing expert underwriting where automated, off-the-shelf insurance products fall short.

With a small, highly experienced team based in Essex and a number of remote staff, MeteorWrite relies on secure, reliable IT to handle sensitive data and support fast, accurate underwriting decisions.

Plan IT Support has worked with MeteorWrite since 2021, supporting the business from its early growth stages and helping to put a professional, enterprise-grade IT foundation in place.

The challenge

When MeteorWrite first engaged Plan IT Support, nothing was actively broken, but their IT setup reflected a start-up phase rather than the realities of a regulated insurance business.

Systems were functional but consumer-grade, with limited structure around access control, security and automation. As the business grew, it became increasingly important to:

  • Secure sensitive client and underwriting data

  • Control access to files and mailboxes appropriately

  • Improve email handling and workflow efficiency

  • Ensure the IT environment would stand up to scrutiny from partners and insurers

In addition, MeteorWrite’s office hardware lease was approaching its end, presenting an opportunity to refresh and standardise user devices.

Our approach

Plan IT Support helped transition MeteorWrite from a basic setup into a secure, well-structured Microsoft 365 environment appropriate for a specialist underwriting business.

Our work included:

  • Managing Microsoft 365 as the core platform for email, files and collaboration

  • Implementing SharePoint with privileged, role-based access to shared data

  • Configuring shared mailboxes and Exchange transport rules to automate email routing and handling

  • Creating secure email tunnels between MeteorWrite and partner insurers

  • Enforcing strong security controls across all users

  • Providing fully outsourced day-to-day IT support and guidance

More recently, we supplied and installed a complete refresh of user hardware, including laptops, docking stations and monitors, ensuring staff have reliable, consistent equipment both in the office and when working remotely.

The result

MeteorWrite now operates on a secure, professional IT platform that reflects the nature of the data they handle and the partners they work with. Access to information is tightly controlled, email workflows are automated and auditable, and staff can work effectively from the office or remotely without compromising security.

Plan IT Support continues to act as MeteorWrite’s outsourced IT department, keeping systems running smoothly while ensuring their technology remains aligned with the expectations of a specialist, regulated insurance business.
