Tempus FM

Tempus Facilities Management began in 2011 as a small, family-run operation working from a home office in Southend-on-Sea. As the business grew rapidly, expanding into larger premises and operating across multiple locations, their IT needed to scale just as quickly, without becoming a distraction.
Plan IT Support has worked with Tempus from the very beginning, supporting their growth from a two-person setup to a multi-site organisation with office-based staff and remote workers operating across the UK and Ireland.
Today, Tempus FM delivers comprehensive workplace and building management services to public and commercial clients across sectors including social housing, healthcare, education, retail and hospitality. Their work spans mechanical and electrical services, fire and security systems, and environmental and hygiene management, all of which rely on reliable, secure and well-managed IT.
The challenge
Tempus’ original IT setup was perfectly adequate for a small home office but quickly became a limitation as the business expanded. Growth brought new requirements: additional staff, dedicated office space, remote access, secure data handling, and systems that could support a mobile workforce without constant firefighting.
The priority was to build an IT environment that could grow with the business, support multiple locations, and stay reliable under pressure.
Our approach
Plan IT Support worked closely with Tempus through each phase of their growth, evolving their IT from a basic setup into a structured, secure and scalable managed environment.
This included:
Designing and supporting office moves as the business expanded into larger premises
Introducing a centralised server and domain environment to manage users, data and permissions
Implementing Microsoft 365 for email, collaboration and secure remote working
Putting robust backup and security measures in place to protect business-critical data
Delivering reliable connectivity between sites using a dedicated leased line and secure VPN
Deploying a cloud-managed network and VoIP phone system to support flexible working
When COVID-19 forced a sudden shift to home working in 2020, Tempus staff were able to transition quickly and continue operating with minimal disruption, thanks to systems already designed for remote access and collaboration.
The result
Tempus now operates with a stable, secure and largely paperless IT environment that supports their day-to-day operations across multiple sites. Staff can work efficiently from the office or remotely, systems are monitored and maintained proactively, and IT has become a predictable operational cost rather than a source of risk.
As Tempus continues to refine and streamline its processes, Plan IT Support remains their long-term IT partner, providing ongoing support, guidance and infrastructure that evolves alongside the business.
